So What was behind the custom dash? Nothing. The custom dash was "L" bracketed off the fire wall. No dash housing, no dash cluster, NOTHING. The heater core had been yanked out, the factory wiring had been hacked and taped in so many places, that even the factory wiring diagram was not too helpful. There was no framework to mount a new dash on. A whole new dash housing assembly had to be found and installed, along with various pieces and parts to be able to not only mount the new dash onto, but wire the new electronics into!

Here are 2 views of the interior with the dash out. Notice that there is no dash housing, not even a place where the VIN plate would go. Removed by Universal. Factory wiring had been cut in some cases and just rolled and taped back. Factory sending units? No such thing....

Here the interior is starting to take shape. New dash housing, new dash supports, proper wiring connections, diagrams and markers. Not original from Universal, but very definitely year 2001 cleanliness.

An all new overhead console, complete with functions was also added.  As you can see from this right-hand side view of the new dash, its a completely different animal from when it rolled in here.

Here is 2 more views of the new and improved dash. This now brings back the true beauty of the car to what it was intended to look like.

OK, time for comparisons: This piece of tv history went from the left picture, to the one on the right. Big difference! And something much more worthy of being called K.I.T.T.
